HURRAY!!!! MY HISTORY ESSAY GOT A H1! H1! Wohoo..... HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!! And here is the comment by the marker.....
Dear Chen Wei Li Aaron, It is a very good work, well done. The argument is clear and precise, as well as the illustrations and points. But, maybe the argument is a little bit too big, and your scope covered many intentions of Wright’s later works. If you can add some previous works of Wrights to further make a series of comparisons, the article will be more precise! Or, you may have narrowed down your argument and only focused on one or two “new” strategies of Wright. Maybe you can say something more which has been never talked (try to be more critical and creative). Maybe try to carefully look at the drawings and images of building itself and precisely analyze them by yourself. Maybe try to say more from your personal opinions, as the result of your analyses and comparisons. It is a very good start, and it will be much better in the next time.
Look out for the mistake... I AM NOT CHEN!! ITS CHEW!!!!! CHEWWWW!!!!!! But ok la... Typical me being too long with my arguments.... Oh well..... BUT A H1!!! WOHOOOOO!!! ON CLOUD 9! But I am wondering if there is a next time... HAHAHA....

One good reason for the hiatus. So lately, been doing my Environmental Science Eco-mimicry assignment and so far here is what I have. A 3D model of a Vertical Bike Parking inspired by the Pitcher plant. Will explain more once I am free. But do comment and give me ur 2 cents.

Just to share....
Want to know the reason why I haven't been sleeping well for the past few days? And why in the world would I want to spend my weekends in college? Simple... Because of assignments. And not just any assignment, it like STUDIO 3 assignment. Right after the first one is completed, the next one is 2 weeks away from it. Hectic I tell you. I can't even recover from the sleepless nights since that one finished 2 weeks ago. So, what is the present one? Here is another sneak peek of it. The reason why it is still a sneak peek is because need to assemble everything tomorrow. Well, for this Studio assignment, we are required to make a site model, a 1:500 scale model of Ipoh town. We were split into 10 zones which took different parts of Ipoh and we had to make a site model which consists of all the building we saw and the streets. Sound cool? HAHA.. Well, it is in a way, but it is no easy job. Besides that, we have a presentation of our site on the same day as the model is due so we have to create an A0 panel. So whats so stressful huh?
Well, the site model is graded and the marks are equal for the whole Studio 3. So lets say 1 zone failed, then everyone will fail in this assignment. And no one wants to fail right? So yea, the 10 zone leaders have to work hard to ensure every zone finishes their job. And the panels is a zone/group work.
I am in Zone 3. And this is what we have done....

Studio 2, Diver's point
Okay... Finally found time to blog about the studio 2 final project I did which is the diver's/divers' point. What is a divers' point? Well, first off, it is a place where people who want to go diving, or scuba diving go to register and then the dive master will bring you to the site for the diving session. And also some dive centers also provides diving lessons for those who are interested. Very straight forward right? If not *click* and Wikipedia will give you the definition. Oh, how we love Wiki. HAHA. To understand this assignment. I think you will have to look for one of my post on September. Not one, a few and it highlighted the Pulau Redang trip. Well, Redang is the site where we were to built out diving center. And when we got back, it was time to hit the drawing boards. From the trip in September, till the 1st of December (Crit day), we toiled on our designs, developement, concepts, ideas, model, presentation board then to the portfolio. Very long process. I guess most of you won't understand the feeling unless you were in our shoes. Well, first off, I had to choose my inspiration.

And out of all the creatures in the sea, the seashell inspired me the most. Seashell = Frank Lloyd Wright's Guggenheim museum = some other famous shell inspired creature. I know I know. But I was approaching the shell differently than all the other designers. Instead of following the all so famous external, my concept came from the internal of the shell. See the Orange part of the shell in the picture above. Yap, that is my insipation.

After choosing our inspiration, comes the requirement for us to do a series of paintings to show the concepts we might be using in our design or maybe all that will become our concept. Requirement, 12 A5 paintings of our creatures. And this was no easy task for someone who haven't been to art class since standard 3. HAHA..

My concept was all about the experience in the diving center. For me, I felt that people always collect shells for its exterior beauty. So I decided to imagine being inside the shell. I was trying to imagine what was the experience one will feel if he stood inside the shell with the top being cut off. How the light will be reflected by the pearl skin coat of the internal of a shell and how it reflects the color of the inside. From this, I wanted to bring into the center, the experience of diving in the great blue sea. The experience of being on the depth looking up to the water surface and how the the surface is bright and as you look down, how dark it gets. That was my first objective.

And I am glad I maage to do so as you can see here. This was what meade me so happy. But drawing the plans for these slanted walls is no easy task.

Besides the light, another experience of the sea is the other senses which are smell, sound and feel of the sea. That is why, my design is very open. This allows the natural sea breeze enter the structure giving out all the senses I wanted. Besides that, the owner will be saving alot on electricity.

What the lectures were afraid is that for a shell, one might get too literal. I am just glad that mine didn't turn out to look like one. Maybe dynamism helped to take the literal feel of the shell. I don't know. But one lesson learnt after this assignment is that I have to get out of my comfort zone. I need to stop designing everything which resembles and airport. I have no idea why, but there are many who refer my design as an airport design because of the length of design. Argh, I need to get out of my norm. So, lets see what I can do for the next studio next year.

Well, no regrets for this studio. Though I had this one comment that the structure still looks abit fat. Haihhh.... Don't laugh. I mean it. HAHA. Joking. Well, yea, I admit, it does look a little bulky. Bahhh.. What else can I do. What done is done right? Well, if you have any ideas or comments, don't hesitate to comment in my comment box ya. Really appreciate it. Well, its the holidays. Christmas is near. Can't wait.
Till the next post.
Happy reading.

So after this, the designing stage began. Sorry, I shall not put my initial design sketches inside. Not because I am "shellfish", but its because I am lazy to edit the sketches. It is very messy. So after changing my design 3 times, I finally came up with my final model and this model took me at least 2 days to complete. My aim, to make it as neat as possible and as sleek and chic.

Submission day for Studio 2 assignment 1
So submission and presentation was on Tuesday, the 2nd of September. Time to panic, 2 p.m.- review time. Heart beating fast. Brain wondering who our crit will be.

Here is our hard work, our sweat and tears.

And guess who was our crit for this assignment?
Thank Goodness it was Mr. Kid.

Aiks, the camera man was spotted.

Ah Yang's Group presenting on the National art gallery.
While some naughty girls decided to cam-whore with their model.

Like I said, each group had their own way of presenting, which is a good thing. Or else it will be boring.

Yep, Mr. Kid was entertained.
The presentation session ended quite early and it brought relief to everyone. It was time to have fun and time for more cam-whoring

My team, my "Girlfriends"... Yes, after hanging out with them, I dwelled in my feminine side. Thus becoming one of them.

They were framed.

And me too.

And the first team to be at the ready for a group photo was Aaron L's team.

This is Mr. Hong, he is the crit for Sherman's group.

And the oh so famous crit which everyone tries to avoid, Mr. Fabien. Its good to get him because he is the type who can be straight and sacarstic in his critism. But too much is also not good.

Yes, Aaron, you don't have to be shocked. You are saved. HAHA.

Ellie snapping a picture of me. Errrrr....
Well, we are all just happy that it is all over. Now we can be happy....

Group cam-whoring...

Then finally.....

We all get to sleep in peace... WHew......
Well, Going to Redang today!!! YAY!!!!!!! HOLIDAY!!!
Oh yea, I am having a flu.. My body is weak after the stress. HAIH....
Here is our hard work, our sweat and tears.
So the review and presentation started at two. Jun Wai's group was up first and he did his presentation of the national Museum of Malaysia.
And guess who was our crit for this assignment?
Thank Goodness it was Mr. Kid.
Mr. Kid is one of the nicer lecturers in college. He does not shoot you down but guides you and allows us to better ourselves.
After Jun Wai, it was my turn to present for my team. It was sort of nerve-wreaking even though I have done quite some presentations before. Hope I did well and didn't disappoint my team. The structure that we presented on was the National Mosque of Malaysia. Sort of a complicated building to analyse. But we managed it thanks to our tutor Mun Yin.

Overall, I think all the four groups under Mun Yin did well in presenting their own building of research. Each had their own unique way of breaking down and using materials that best explains the structure.

Few nights at studio...
Studio work always equals to sleepless nights in the studio. Its only our first assignment and already you can see many students staying overnight in the college studio. I am just glad I can finally rest a bit. After staying overnight for 3 nights and with an average of 2-3 hours sleep a day, I was going to go insane if we continued on in college. Well, it was not boring staying overnight because I have the usual noisy and happening gang with me in the studio. So lets see Thursday > Friday > Saturday > Sunday night. That's how long we stayed in the studio. Of course, we did go back home to shower and nap a bit. But its not really good to stay awake that long. Imagine smelling the scent of Uhu glue, paint and dust in the studio. Whew... I really can't wait for Thursday to get some fresh air at Pulau Redang. I think everyone will agree with me.
Most of the pictures which is going to be posted in this post are of those who slept and were caught by the camera, including me that is. This post is dedicated to those who were in the studio with us to remind each other how hardworking we all are and also how "KIASU" we can be. HAHA.
The first night, we were accompanied by Aaron L and his group which consists of Clement, Arizz and Katrina. Thursday evening turned to Friday morning in a blink of an eye, I tell you. Its like it gets faster when is nearing due dates. Hellish I tell you. But we are still humans right? We still have to sleep. So looking into the next door to peak at what Aaron L and his group were doing, We saw Aaron sleeping on the table.

Peaking through the small gap of the door.

Yes people, this is our so called "bed" in the studio.
Friday morning quickly creeped in and we had structures class at 8 a.m. Imagine going to a theory class without sleeping for 24 hours. I dozed off after an hour of class. I feel sorry for Mr. Chew, our structures lecturer because he was teaching and half of his class were sleeping. HAHA. He kept making jokes about "happy hunting ground" and I think he was being sacarstic towards us. Well, what he said was true. Why can we spend a whole night in studio and not stay awake for 4 more hours in his class. Well, class ended at almost 12 because he wanted to rush off one chapter due to the next class will be canceled due for all the studio students who will be going on their trips for the each respected assignments. Rushed back to studio after lunch and we stayed there for yet another night. Jun Wai and his group were the next group to accompany us that night. So was Sherman's group.

Back to peaking peaking and being "Kepo", I noticed Hau Yee talking to Chi, Ben and Ellie. But their position seems like something very familiar.

It looked like Hau Yee presenting her work and getting crits frm the Crits. HAHA.

See what I mean. Chi reminds me of Mr Kid, Ben reminds me of Mr Hong and Ellie reminds me of Miss V.

This was how all of us looked. As Jess put it, Zombie-fied.

Where we refilled our water bottles.

Mixed emotions when we did our assignment.
Sometimes doing too much of something....

Will lead to this.

My stubby fingers at work.

Everyone being serious in their work.

Jess showing off the motifs that she had carved out.

Yep, Including me. I was so tired that I just pulled up another chair and took a short nap in the middle of the studio.

When I woke up, I spotted Sherman sleeping in a very awkward position. Wow... Imagine how to sleep like this.

Li Qun too. very awkward position.
Daphne, Hau Yee and Jess were so into seeing the sunrise at college that at 6.30 a.m., they will rush out to the garden with cameras and go snap a picture of the beginning of the day.

Picture taken by Hau Yee using my camera.

Ben and Daphne slept on their work tables
And

Sherman changed his position and a different sleeping pose.
Some hardcore ones were sleeping and working at the same time. Yes, we do zone out while we are working.

Gordon working or sleeping? Hmmm...

The almost finish ceiling....

Daphne working hard on the roof.

Yes, Hau Yee. I know the feeling....

Back to work for all of us...

Annoyed Hau Yee.

Our serious faces..... Look how tired we were.
We worked till a point where we all felt hungry so we decided to pamper ourselves with some Ramen and a glass of green tea at Pyramid. Honestly, spending too much time with girls is not a good thing. I was turning into one of their "girlfriends" which is sort of bad because I am a guy. HAHA.

Look how happy Hau Yee was when she gets to eat her Ramen.

Jess...

Daphne!!! Whats with the tongue?

My kimchi-whatever don...

And it was good. Delicious.....

Crazy moments...

Yes, If we were done, I would not be so so sad. I miss my bed...

Everyone getting frustrated..
SOOOO
It was time for another round of cam-whoring.

Master says, its time for peace. Relax your body, mind and soul. Muahhaha.

Hi, I just came back from Paris.

Grrrrrrrrrrr..... Stupid roof..

Apa macam? Huh huh? Ai pak ah? Lai la. (hokkien)

hmmmmm... I wonder what she was thinking of when she made this face.

Group cam-whoring.. Final group photo of the night.

This is me after 5 days of work with an average of 2 hours sleep a day...
Next post will be on the presentation and submission day... Wait for it... Ciaoz...

Yea, we got free toothpaste earlier in the evening. Had to pose with it just to show that even though we stayed overnight in the studio, we still brush our teeth.
Mixed emotions when we did our assignment.
Sometimes doing too much of something....
Will lead to this.
Haha. NAh. I am just playing with you all. I am still alive and yes, that's actually the tooth paste.. After the cam-whoring and the posing and the playing, it back to the serious stuff. Time is still ticking and the time of submission is near.
My stubby fingers at work.
Everyone being serious in their work.
Jess showing off the motifs that she had carved out.
Night turned to day and day turned to night then to day again. We all could not stop ourselves from dozing off.

Four days and counting, the planned time of finish was already way way overdue but it doesn't matter at this point. As long as finish with great results then we will be happy.
Daphne working hard on the roof.
Everything was sort of finished on Sunday night. Only the small details that Daphne had to fix so we went home Sunday night to get some good night rest.
Little did we know, there was a problem with the messurements on the base of the model so instead of having the final disscussion on Monday morning, we had to head to Jess's place to redo the model. At the same time screw on the presentation board.

I needed the sleep or else I wouldnt be able to present well the next day... But it was finally done. After 5 days of work. Whew.... Thanks guys for the wonderful work produced.
